چکیده
The Measurement of Cerebral Infarction Edema With Sodium 22 • Sodium 22 was used to determine quantitatively cerebral infarction edema in cats after occlusion of the middle cerebral artery. A comparison was made of the sodium 22 edema determination with the wet weight-dry weight method of edema determination. There was a high degree of correlation between the two methods. The sodium 22 method of measuring cerebral infarction edema was less time consuming and easier than the wet weight-dry weight method, and served as a reliable means of quantitatively comparing the edema content in the hemispheres of animals with stroke. Candesartan Attenuates Ischemic Brain Edema and Protects the Blood–Brain Barrier Integrity from Ischemia/Reperfusion Injury in Rats
Background: Angiotensin II (Ang II) has an important role on cerebral microcirculation however, its direct roles in terms of ischemic brain edema need to be clarified. This study evaluated the role of central Ang II by using candesartan, as an AT1 receptor blocker, in the brain edema formation and blood-brain barrier (BBB) disruption caused by ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injuries in rat. Methods...

Background and purpose: Sesame oil (SO) is known to have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties and may produce protective effects against ischemic stroke-induced brain injuries. We examined the effects of treatment with SO on cerebral infarction and edema in a rat model of ischemic stroke. Materials and methods: Thirty male Sprague Dawley rats were divided into sham, ischemic, and isch...
متن کاملContribution of Nitric Oxide Synthase (NOS) Activity in Blood-Brain Barrier Disruption and Edema after Acute Ischemia/ Reperfusion in Aortic Coarctation-Induced Hypertensive Rats
Background: Nitric oxide synthase (NOS) activity is increased during hypertension and cerebral ischemia. NOS inactivation reduces stroke-induced cerebral injuries, but little is known about its role in blood-brain barrier (BBB) disruption and cerebral edema formation during stroke in acute hypertension. Here, we investigated the role of NOS inhibition in progression of edema formation and BBB d...
متن کاملTHE EFFICACY OF DECOMPRESSIVE CRANIECTOMY IN TREATMENT OF PATIENTS WITH MASSIVE HEMISPHERIC CEREBRAL INFARCTION
Massive cerebral infarction is often accompanied by early death, secondary to brain edema and trans-tentorial herniation. Several reports indicate beneficial effects of decompressive craniectomy in this situation, but the efficacy of this procedure is still a matter of debate. A n experimental study in a period of3 years was done on2 3 patients with brain edema due to massive cerebral infa...
متن کاملAttenuation of Focal Cerebral Ischemic Injury Following Post-Ischemic Inhibition of Angiotensin Converting Enzyme (ACE) Activity in Normotensive Rat
Background: Central renin angiotensin system has an important role on the cerebral microcirculation and metabolism. Our previous work showed that inhibition of angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) activity prior to induction of ischemia protected the brain from severe ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injuries. This study evaluated the impacts of post-ischemic inhibition of ACE, enalapril, on brain inf...
